Health and Social Care

The Health and Social Care department at Solihull Academy aims to provide students with an introduction to Health and Social Care in Year 9 resulting in a Level 1 qualification. Students can explore the various sectors, job roles and settings within the very diverse world of Health and Social Care. The curriculum explores the nature of the sector and also considers the various needs of individual service users. Students consider life stage development, the development mile stones and the changing needs of individuals throughout the lifetime.

In Year 10 and 11 students can achieve the Level 2 BTEC Award in Health and Social Care, which firstly provides a more in-depth look at life stage development. Students they move on to consider the key Health Care values that workers must respect and promote. In Year 11 the curriculum explores effective communication with service users followed by equality and diversity. The courses allow students to explore aspects of health care to help inform future decisions regarding apprenticeships and post 16 college options. Where possible students can meet with employers such as NHS, Armed services and third sector workers through guest speakers or site visits.
